Bamboo Mat Corrugated Roofing Sheets

Bamboo Mat Corrugated Roofing Sheets

Innova Roofings & Joinery is proud to offer first of its kind in the world – Original Bamboo Mat Corrugated Sheet (BMCS) and Bamboo Mat Ridge Caps (BMRC) for roofing and cladding applications manufactured under technical know-how from Indian Plywood Industries Research & Training Institute (IPIRTI), Bangalore and Building Materials & Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC), New Delhi. The Bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheet and complimenting ridge are manufactured and certified under ISI: 15476-2004 Under CM/L – 5614666. The products are approved, specified and widely used by Indian Government organisations such as Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Military Engineering Services (MES), Indian Railways, Metro Rail, Airport Authority Of India (AAI) & Tourism Development Board, Forest Departments and famous Indian Corporate houses.

Bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheets are an excellent alternative to corrugated metal, plastic and cement-based roofing sheets. They are produced from a natural and sustainable resource and can be used to cover homes, storage facilities, animal pens and many other temporary or permanent structures. The Bamboo Mat Corrugated Sheet (BMCS) was developed originally by the Indian Government Scientists at IPIRTI at Bangalore and the commercial production has been established under the brand name of TIMPACK GREEN GOLD based at Meghalaya. IPIRTI collaborated with Timber Research & Development Association (TRADA), UK under a DFID funded project to demonstrate the best and alternate construction practices using Bamboo mat corrugated sheets as the roofing product for various structures at the pilot facility.

The Bamboo mat corrugated sheets are strong and high resilient roofing product. The sheets have been periodically tested at laboratory and on-site conditions over the period of years and found to be waterproof and resistant to decay, termites and insects and fire. The bamboo mat corrugated sheets are eco-friendly roofing product and an ideal replacement to asbestos / non-asbestos cement sheets, galvanized iron, galvalume, aluminium, bitumen, timber and other wood based roofing products. Since the bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheets are manufactured from woven bamboo mats, it offers much needed employment opportunity at village level and is a boon to fast track roofing / housing projects in disaster prone areas and in pre-fabricated housing segment. The wide range of possibilities using bamboo in the construction sector is gaining importance at the global level as the, ‘Material of the future’. No wonder the bamboo is termed as Green Gold, Poor man’s timber, Green gasoline, Cradle to coffin timber and so on.

Why Should One Support Bamboo Mat Corrugated Roofing Sheets?

We earnestly seek Architects, Consultants, Engineers, Contractors and Property owners to include bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheet in your projects. You will not only benefit in terms of a superior quality roofing product, but your support will help in addressing three-major concerns of national importance.

  • Ecological Security: Your support helps in conserving timber through substitution, increasing carbon sequestration through planting and providing an alternate to non-biodegradable materials like metals and plastics. The social forestry activities not only ensure clean environment but also generates employment opportunities to village and tribal people.
  • Sustainable Food Security: Your support will provide opportunity for the promotion of bamboo based agro-forestry systems and the use of bamboo in soil-water conservation and watershed development. This prevents soil erosion and availability of land for farming.
  • Livelihood Security: Your support will create equal opportunity for the villagers and tribal people at par with factory going urban workers through generation of eco-jobs at the village level and more particularly for women in mat weaving. Your continued support will also play a major role in developing a wide range of other market driven products.

Merits Of Bamboo Mat Corrugated Roofing Sheets

  • Bond quality: Bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheets are phenol bonded and have shown excellent resistance against de-lamination during cyclic boil-dry tests and immersion in boiling water for 12-hours and drying with 12% moisture content. Hence the product is safe to use in varying climate range of tropical, coastal, high rain-fall zones and snow cladded mountains.
  • Resistance to decay & insects: Bamboo mat corrugated sheets when subjected to graveyard test by burying in active termite mounds and exposing to borer infection remained unaffected.
  • Mold and fungus: Bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheets have excellent resistance to high humidity and do not offer the required conditions for growth of mold and fungus.
  • Water permeability: Bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheets are highly waterproof. No need to worry about leaks, damp spots and seepages. Standard size bamboo mat corrugated sheets were mounted on a roofing frame and the edges completely sealed with a putty, filled with water to a height of 75mm above the crown level and observed for water leakage/seepage. There results showed no indication of leakage/seepage of water even after three cycles of water permeability tests. Each cycle comprising of water filling was for 24 hours, followed by removal of water and air-drying for 48 hours under the sun.
  • Load bearing capacity: Bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheets have shown higher bending strength than corrugated cement roofing sheets. This means the bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheets can endure larger and long-time loads. The load bearing capacity of bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheet is 5.65 N/mm, which is a notch higher than 6-mm thick cement sheet, 16.73% more than GI corrugated sheet and 238.32% more than 1.20 mm thick aluminium corrugate sheet. Bamboo mat corrugated sheet is the strongest of all the above-mentioned roofing sheets and has high resilience.
  • Impact of falling objects: Bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheets are not prone to cracking and dents during an accidental fall of a reasonable sized object. They bear a much higher instant striking force and high impact strength (9.93 Mpa) as compared to cement sheets (2.55 Mpa) and coated steel corrugated sheets. Hence use of bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheets in coconut farms and project sites subject to accident falling of material from high rise floor construction activities is highly recommended.
  • Thermal conductivity: Bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheets have the highest thermal resistance and the lowest thermal coefficient as compared to coated steel, PVC and cement-based roofing sheets. The thermal conductivity of bamboo mat corrugated sheet is measured as 0.1928 k.cal/m0C as compared to 0.3422 k.cal/ m0C to 6-mm thick cement corrugated sheet.
  • High-speed wind resistance: Bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheets offer excellent resistance to high-speed winds. Cyclonic storms leave no impact on bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheets.
  • Noise pollution: The sound of rain pattering on a PVC, colour coated steel, aluminium is always rattling. The sound obstruction of the bamboo mat corrugated sheet is 9 dB better than that of a PVC roofing sheet and 4-times better than that of a coated steel roofing sheet.
  • Fire retardant: Bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheet is fire-retardant and have better combustion-proof properties when compared to PVC roofing sheets. They show a slower burning speed, smaller combustion heat and lower heat release rate compared to PVC corrugated roofing sheets. The flame penetration in a bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheet takes place after 14-minutes and the rate of burning is 22 minutes.
