A typical Roofing shingle is a composite of fiberglass reinforcement, mineral stabilizers and high-grade Asphalt. They are overlaid with high strength ceramic coated granules, below which is a mineral stabilizer cum fire-retardant coating. The entire composition comes in the form of mats. A sheet of shingle is about 3 feet x 1 feet in size and 3 to 5 mm thickness. They are packed in bundles of about 25 sheets.

Typical Applications

Roofing Shingles can be conveniently applied on any kind of slope (pitched) roofs that are hard, structurally stable and even surface. The roofing shingles can be laid on RCC Sloped roofs, Wooden decks, Fibre-cement boards etc., on a variety of roof patterns ranging from steep slope, curved, arched, conical and dome shaped.

Installation Procedure Over Concrete Decks

  • Concrete surfaces shall be overlaid with a minimum of 25 mm thick Cement screed to smooth finish and cured properly.
  • A coat of bituminous primer will be applied on the concrete screed and left till it achieves touch- dry condition.
  • Corners and junctions of sloping roof if any adjoining a vertical wall or valley gutter will be lined with one feet wide flashing membrane.
  • Starter course will be lined at the bottom of sloping roof (Eaves) before commencing the application of CERTAINTEED shingles.
  • CERTAINTEED shingles will then be fastened using approved Corrosion resistant nails, at suitable distance as per manufacturer’s specifications.
  • The front part of the shingle will be stuck to the subsequent shingle using the self-adhesive tape provided at the bottom.
  • Ridges will be fixed after the sloped surfaces are covered.

Installation Procedure On Fibre cement boards / Wooden decks

  • The Fibre cement board or Wooden deck should not warp in moisture. Hence a minimum thickness of 16 mm thick Boiling waterproof, Marine Ply certified wooden deck or 16 mm thick Fibre cement board is highly recommended.
  • The gaps between the boards shall be kept to Zero and lined using waterproof self-adhesive membrane.
  • All corners and junctions of sloping roof if any with a vertical wall or valley guttershall be lined with one feet wide flashing membrane.
  • Starter course will be fixed at the bottom of sloping roof surface (Eaves) before commencing the installation of CERTAINTEED shingles.
  • CERTAINTEED shingles will then be fastened using approved Corrosion resistant Screws / Nails
  • The front part of the shingle will be stuck to the subsequent shingle using the self-adhesive tape provided at the bottom.
  • Ridges will be fixed after the sloped roofs are covered with shingles.
